The idea of establishing an engineering college in Faridpur emerged from the growing need for specialized education in the western region of Bangladesh. Recognizing the demand for engineers in a developing economy, the government allocated resources to create a state-of-the-art institution dedicated to technical education. From its inception, Faridpur Engineering College was envisioned as a center for academic and practical excellence, adhering to both national and international educational standards.Initially, the college started with three major undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). These disciplines were selected based on their relevance to the industrial and infrastructural needs of the country.
Over the years, FEC has undergone significant transformation, expanding its infrastructure and academic facilities. The college campus is equipped with modern lecture halls, fully functional laboratories, a comprehensive library, and advanced computing facilities. These resources ensure that students have access to the tools and technology they need to excel in their studies. The academic programs at FEC are affiliated with the Univesity of Dhaka. This affiliation ensures a robust curriculum, rigorous assessment methods, and adherence to the highest academic standards. DU's involvement has been instrumental in shaping FEC as a trusted institution for engineering education.
The college provides B.Sc. programs in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Civil Engineering (CE), and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), each accommodating 63 students. With modern infrastructure and comprehensive facilities, the college ensures a conducive environment for academic and personal growth.
It is located on a 12-acre campus with 10 buildings, including academic blocks, an administrative building, a library, an auditorium, a cafeteria, and facilities like a bank and post office. The college offers residential accommodations for students: two male halls (160 capacity each) named Bongobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Palli Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, and a female hall with a capacity of 96.
